LAST WEEK WAS A BAD WEEK FOR: LaTROY HAWKINS

Welcome LaTroy, to the can't-catch-a-break department.  The veteran pitcher has an ERA of 10.03 in 10 appearances, not the kind of number that makes Yankee fans feel warm and fuzzy.  The denizens of the Bronx Zoo were already booing Hawkins for deciding to wear #21, which hasn't been handed out since the much-loved Paul O'Neill retired.  Hawkins, who was only trying to honor Roberto Clemente, has since switched to #22.

UMP STOPS A FASTBALL WITH HIS FACE...OUCH!

This is unreal.  How badly the Dodger catcher misses this pitch is unimaginable.  Apparently due to crossed signals, expecting a change and pitcher throws a fastball.

What is really evident though is the steady decline in Vin Scully.  Still love his voice but maybe it's time for him to have a person with him in the booth.  He totally misses this play.

ANNIVERSARY: THE GREATEST POST-GAME TIRADE EVER

Later this week, April 29th, will mark the 25th anniversary of the greatest postgame rant of all time.

The year was 1983 and it was a lean one on the Chicago sports scene, but it was this futility that gave rise to the incident.  After the Cubs had lost a close one, 4-3, to the Dodgers, dropping them to 5-14 to begin the season, manager Lee Elia lost his temper.  Just have a listen:

There have been other memorable rants, but Elia's is the most stunningly emotional and profane.  Most diatribes are about performances or injustices committed by officials.  But this was directed solely at the fans at Wrigley Field.  That Friday afternoon, they had taunted the Cubs.  One of the players had been doused with beer.

So, in the end what happened?  Well, Elia saved his Job by apologizing, but he was fired later in the season.

So, how did I fare in the first round?  Well 4-0 in the East and 2-2 in the West for an overall 6-2 record.  Not bad, eh?  (had to throw that "eh" in when I talk puck).  Missed on Minnesota as Colorado surprised me, but not most.  And Anaheim's quick exit surprised all the pundits.  On to round two:

Sometimes there are truly great and bizarre stories of fans who go all the way.  This one's cool in that it's a kid.  An innocent kid who just loves the game and Calgary Flame's goalie, Miikka Kiprusoff.  I first thought this was a prank, until I actually heard it on a sports news cast.  Very cool.
